Abandonia
Abandonia is an archive of old, old games, some of which you can download and play for free.
From the FAQ:What is Abandonware? Is it legal?

BBC Micro
BeeBem is a BBC Micro emulator. Technically it's illegal to download the operating system that goes with the emulator, so shh! There are some great games though, so give it a go. The BBC got me through my childhood.
Civilisation
The original and best Civilisation was released in 1991. Everything else was just a footnote to Sid Meier's original creation.
Deus Ex
Deus Ex is probably the best first person game ever created for the PC. It pioneered many new concepts in game design, including interactive soundtrack and character modding. There are also many ways to add patches and mess around with the software.

Transport Tycoon
One of the best games ever made. Very addictive.
